Poker classic deals out a charitable hand

The Knights of St Columbanus held their annual poker classic in the GAA pavilion in Tyrrellspass recently, raising much needed funds for several local charities. This long standing event has raised a substantial amount of money for local charity since its inception, and has become a calendar event, largely due to the tireless efforts of its organisers. This year"s presentation of cheques took place in the Annebrook House Hotel for the second year running. The Grand Knight, Sean O Farrell, said 'We would like to take this opportunity to say a special word of thanks to all who supported our Poker Classic, whether they were in attendance or not. Many people buy a ticket or give a financial contribution, some attend, some support the event, and we are very grateful to all of them'.Sean O"Farrell stressed the recipients of the money donated on the strength of the classic are also very grateful, not only to the Knights of St. Columbanus, but to the wider community for their part. The knights also thanked the management and staff of the Annebrook House Hotel, who 'are very receptive to the event and provide a very professional and friendly service.'Mr. O"Farrell went on to say that the poker classic is about 'supporting those around us who are in need of our help in our community. It also provides a fun night out for many people.'No doubt the poker classic will attract a 'full house' again next year!
