Minister impressed by Tyrrellspass work plan

What was once an ugly lay-by on the main Dublin Road between Kilbeggan and Tyrrellspass, has been transformed by the Tyrrellspass Development Association into a carefully planned, and meticulously maintained amenity area. The fruits of their labours came under close scrutiny on Friday, as the official opening of the Killavalley Amenity Area took place, with the Kerry football legend and politician, Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht on hand to formally open it.Louise Couper, secretary of the Development Association, pointed out that there are native apple trees planted; seating in place; a wildflower meadow, and formal lawned areas at the Amenity Area - which is also home to the village's bring banks. In Tyrrellspass, the Development Association doubles up as the Tidy Towns committee, and the members have a long list of ambitions for their area, Mrs. Couper and other members revealed to Minister Deenihan.Tom Fitzpatrick, chairman of the Association explained that the identification of the four projects that the Association has undertaken to carry out came about through a Heritage Council of Ireland grant that paid for a survey of the area.(For more see this week's Examiner)
