Kinnegad gets in on Jerusalema craze
Early-morning truckdrivers aren’t accustomed to seeing dance performances as they pull up at roadside services for their caffeine fix.
Saturday week however, in the sleet, staff from the Kinnegad Plaza braved the bitter cold for outside shots for their “Jerusalema Challenge” dance – to the delight of their early morning customers.
“We had some of the truckers and cars beeping at us,” says staff member Steph Browne, who was behind the original suggestion to site manager Peter McKeown that the Plaza try out the challenge
The filming of the indoor scenes was also done while there were customers present – some of whom even wound up dancing themselves off-camera.
In preparation for the day of filming, the participants looked up several You Tube videos that explained how to do the steps, plus they looked several times at the Garda video.
“We had one night where we rehearsed and then we did a practice run on the morning of filming,” says Steph, a training coordinator at Supermac’s.
“It looks complicated but it’s simple enough when you break it down.”
“There was a great atmosphere, but then there’s always a great atmosphere between us all at work anyway – we all get along with each other,” says Steph, confirming that the staff kept working right through the pandemic.
“We’ve been working extremely hard and are still continuing to do so,” she says, going on to add that managers as well as staff took part in the filming.
