History tour – Norman Mullingar
Ruth Illingworth is guiding a tour of Norman Mullingar this coming Sunday, May 30 at 3pm from the Market House.
Ruth gives the background: The town of Mullingar was founded around 1185 by the Norman Lord, William Le Petit.
His brother Ralph was the first parish priest of Mullingar. This tour will explore what life was like in Mullingar during Norman times.
Over the years, Mullingar developed into a multilingual market town. Places visited will include the sites of the Petit Castle, the original parish church and the three monasteries established by the Perits.
