The High Kings plus Cathy Maguire
On Saturday, October 25 The High Kings and acclaimed singer/songwriter Cathy Maguire will appear at the Mullingar Arts Centre. The High Kings made up of Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Martin Furey and Darren Holden are back home for an Irish tour following their great success in the US.Today the group spoke of their delight that Cathy Maguire will be joining the tour."It"s great to be back home performing. We had a fantastic reception from audiences in the US and the tour was amazing, but there is something great about playing live back home. We are delighted that Cathy will be joining us on the tour, she is a great artiste and we know that audiences will be in for a real treat."And speaking about the tour herself, Cathy Maguire said:"I studied for an honours degree in music and as part of that studied the music of the Fureys and the Clancys. I know the huge impact that they had bringing this music to the US and the role they played as Ambassadors for Irish music. Now 40 years on it"s come full circle and the next generation are once again bringing this music back to audiences. My music is greatly influenced by the singer/songwriter approach, where it is just you on the stage with your voice and the story you are telling. This is a perfect match with what The High Kings are doing."Cathy Maguire came to prominence at the tender age of twelve when she went about selling her first album herself and after a phone call from the Gerry Ryan show following on hundreds of requests from listeners talking about a little girl who was "going around selling her tapes and singing for people" a live appearance on the show followed. Since then she has never looked back and has become known throughout Ireland. She has also established herself in the US working in Nashville with some of the most songwriters there including five times Ivor Norvello winner Roger Cook, of world renowned writing duo Cook and Greenway. Her new CD will be released in Ireland in January 2009.Catch the High Kings and Cathy Maguire in the Mullingar Arts Centre on Saturday, October 25.
