Purple Raven Art Gallery launches new exhibition by Hazel Revington–Cross to promote unity

On Saturday 13th of August there will be a new exhibition by Hazel Revington-Cross as part of an evening event to promote unity, peace and love. This theme has been incorporated into all the gallery events throughout the year as much as possible, including the external walls, which the artists and visitors have decorated with graffiti.

Hazel’s art will include some pieces made from recycled toy soldiers that have been painted and arranged to spell out words or images depicting peace and unity. Other pieces depict pop art in keeping with the graffiti on the walls. There are letters on display, posted home during WW11 to her grandfather, written by his brother who was a sailor. They were his last letters home before the ship he was on was blown up.

This is the Purple Raven Art Gallery's first big gathering since government restrictions in 2020. “A lot has happened in between then and now. There has been much hardship, unrest and division among humanity,” said Hazel “and we have been doing our best to promote a community of unity and peace.”

In December of 2021 a candle was lit at the gallery to mark the winter solstice, with the focus of holding the intention to spread unity, peace and love and keep a flame lit for the next three years. Fifteen countries around the globe and many counties here in Ireland have taken turns at lighting a candle and spreading that same intention for people to come together in peace and love and unite as one. Photographs of the candles lighting have been sent to the gallery and are on display surrounding a map of the world. This week a candle is burning in Iceland.

On the evening friends and neighbours can gather between 7pm-10pm to surround themselves with art, a music session by the Many Mores, some poetry and a reading by actress Mary McEvoy. We will open the event by calling for peace around the globe in several languages. No formal invitation is required and all are welcome to attend.

The gallery's address is Purple Raven Art, Crowenstown, Delvin.
