HSE national finals a huge success
The AIT Committee and Staff did their college and the county of Westmeath proud.They handled, in a very efficient way, the thousands of competitors, officials and families who descended on the college for the very first ever HSE Community Games Finals. They, along with the Community Games officials, made this magnificent festival of singing, dancing, team and individual competitions a truly memorable occasion for all participants and no stone left unturned to ensure everyone had a great time and all their facilities were top class. The AIT College looks like it will be a very popular venue for the Games over the next four years.Delvin Draughts Win GoldThis very young Delvin Under-10 Draughts team added the National title and gold medals to their county and Leinster titles won early in the year. This was a great achievement for those young boys and girls and also to their team coaches who give up so much of their time and expertise in preparing these children for competition.The team members were: Enda Gaffney, Paula Murtagh, James Drumm, Conor Leavy, Lorraine Williams, Eoin Quinn. Delvin also picked up medals for fourth place in the Under-13 Table Tennis team of Sean Kelleghan, Henry Ogle, Ryan Polger, Patrick Cannon.Keith Lynch was the proud winner of a National silver medal in the Art U-8 while their were fine performances from Glen Gaffney, Oisin Quinn and Niamh Quinn in the Cross Country race and Gary Flynn in the Art U-16.Tamara Wins MedalTamara McLoughlin from Castledaly put up a great performance in the Solo Singing competition and received a medal despite very strong competition. Darragh Owens was up against stong competition in the Art Under-12.Mt. Temple/Baylin - The girls Under-13 Indoor Soccer team came up against very strong in the finals and received medals for fourth place. The team members were, Amy Donoghue, Naoise Rasmusse, Aoife Connolly, Aisling Flynn, Brona Daly, Patricia Grennan, Nicole O"Connor and Laura Woods .In the Solo Music competition Stephen Connolly was unlucky not to be among the medals.The Downs - Had a very impressive Project display at the finals and the team members were, Niamh Staunton, Keelin Rowan, Meabh O"Connor and Evelyn Paul. Seven year old Adam Conneely will have gained great experience in the Model Making competition.Representing Killucan/Raharney were Ellen Cronin and Meabh McNulty in the Cross Country and Eoghan Ahearne in Art Under-10.Alex Ryan from Moate took part in the Art Under-14. Ballymahon Road had Mairin Ryan in the Art Under-16.Kinnegad/Coralstown were well represented at the finals by Aisling Bracken, Emma Glynn, Kevin Giles, Brendan Keaveney (Cross Country) and Shauna Leydon (Art Under-8).Kilbeggan had Linday Conroy in the Cross Country. Patrick Shaw, Cormac Dalton, Liam O"Reilly, Caoimhe Shaw, Laura Whitelaw, Claire Fagan were representing Gainstown in the Cross Country while Milltown/Empor had Edward Heduan in Model Making Under-12.Collinstown/Fore had nineteen competitors taking part, winning bronze medals for third place in the Under-14 Quiz. The team were, Killian Daly, Peter McKenna, Andrew Leahy, Reuben Byrnes, Kelly Coyle, Caoimhe McCrossan. They were also great performances from, Laura Fagan, Yesim Fitzpatrick, Marie Fagan, Bibi O"Reilly, Naomi Fitzpatrick (Group Singing), Blaithaid Daly, (Recitation), Ann Marie Kennedy (Cross Country), Emma Carter (Art U-14).Ballynacargy/Sonna Draughts Under-12 had very tough competition and after a tie-breaker won medals for fourth place. The team were, Grainne Byrne, Eoin Nally, Troy Maher, Rowan Burke, Philip Price and Vicki Penrose.Beechpark/Coosan put on a great formance in the Culture Corner and should have received a much higher place than fourth. The team were, Aisling Golden, Sinead Reidy, Cliodhna Golden, Emily Henshaw, Terri O"Sullivan, Ciara Egan..Representing Tubberclair/Glasson at the finals were, Aoife Conlon (Model Making Under-14), Louise Kennedy (Model Making Under-10), Paul Connaught on (Model Making Under-14).St. Brigids/C.W.R. had Shane Hughesand James Lenihan in the Cross Country and Maoiliosa Ni Leannachain in the Art Under-16. Auburn/Town Centre - Lauren Casey (Cross Country).Entries For Athletic FinalBy the end of the week all completed athletic panel forms should be properly filled out with children"s signatures and managers name and telephone number and sent in to the County Secretary, Community Games, Mullingar Business Park, Zone A, Mullingar.
