Brosna Art Group's annual exhibition opens!
A vista of Skellig Michael, broad expanses of cliff face with a towering lighthouse protecting its territory from the encroaching seas, all sorts of animals from horses to tigers, and even a few sheep, are just some of the works on display in the latest exhibition from Brosna Art Group.
Officially opened by Ray Dolan in the Greville Arms on Thursday night last, it was fitting gesture for the man "from Mullingar, in Mullingar", and doubly poignant as his uncle Joe Dolan was the subject of two portraits by artist Catriona Devine, who used a minimalist palette of just three colours to recreate the showman in all his glory.
"I just felt Joe was such a huge character in Mullingar that it would be nice to paint him," says Catriona.
Barbara Algar explained that the exhibition is "a culmination of a year's work by a group that's now numbering 28" and it runs in the Greville Arms until Saturday November 11.
