The make up of the semi-finals in the John D Coghlan Memorial Tournament was finalised last Saturday night.

Mark Foran, bidding for a first success in the event, faced the seasoned Kevin Nolan for a place in the last four. Knowing he would have to produce his 'A' game, he played excellent bowls to grab an early lead.

As anticipated, Kevin got into his stride and made inroads into Mark's advantage. However, the latter never faltered and sealed the victory with an end to play.

Mark, who will be buoyed by this wonderful performance, will meet John Fitzpatrick while dark horse, John O'Dowd is pitted against Eugene McComb. Two intriguing contests await.

Plate competition

Following the completion of the preliminaries in the principal event, Competition Secretary, Glen Risdale was able to do the draw for the Plate Competition.

The semi-finals will contain at least one of our lady members as great friends, Glen and Dolores McCormack were drawn to meet. Rosemarie Gately will play Adrian Maguire, while Kevin Nolan will be favourite to overcome PJ McManus. In the final game, Eoin Corrigan will meet Frank Roche.

Games in both the Plate and Novice events are likely to be played this coming weekend. It is hoped to play off all three finals on the same night, depending on players' availability.
