Field events bring county finals to a successful conclusion
Following the successful Track Events in St. Loman"s G.A.A. Club on Sunday, the Field Events moved to the Mullingar Harriers Club on Monday evening where the large gathering were treated to another day of top class competitions in boys and girls grass cycling, long jump, shot putt, long puck, ball throw, high jump and discus.Our sincere thanks to the members of the Harriers Club and to everyone who came along and helped bring our County Finals to a successful conclusion. It was great to see so many people volunteering to help out over the weekend and long may it continue. To all the boys and girls who qualified for the National Finals, we wish you all continued success. This is a great opportunity for athletes to get fit and also learn the techniques involved in relays and field events.Going To Mosney?Time is running out for all qualifiers in Gymnastic, Swimming and Athletics (track and field) to have copies of their birth or baptismal certificate, together with the Mosney fee of 25 euro if your non-resident and 120 euro if your resident which includes, travel, meals etc. with the County Secretary, Westmeath Community Games Centre, Mullingar Business Park, Zone A, Mullingar. We must shave the above fees now in order that we can forwarded them on to National Headquarters with panel forms of qualifiers. So please send in certs and monies before people go away on holidays.Leinster GamesBy the time these notes are published, the second round against Offaly will have been completed and the line-up for the Leinster semi-finals and finals in Clondalkin on Saturday, 5th July, will be completed. Second Weekend - August 22nd/25th.Everybody For Sport ProjectThe Westmeath Sports Partnership (WSP) have been granted funding from National Action Plan Against Racism (NPAR) for a 'Everybody 4 Sport 'project. This project aims to encourage clubs and organisations to welcome and source new members from minority groups and create greater community integration.All of the thirty Areas within Westmeath Community Games have been invited to take part in this very worthwhile 'Everybody 4 Sport 'project. The project aims to encourage clubs and organisations to welcome and source new members from minority groups and create greater community integration.Time is of the essence regarding submissions and running of approved projects so we would ask for your prompt reply as funding will be terminated by NPAR at the end of August. To this end we ask that project submissions be received by WSP by 4.00pm on the 4th of July. On the day participants can try one or many sports and if interested possibly sign up to join the Games. 'Come Try It Days' should be targeted across the community for best results.New Sport Within An AreaA simple survey carried out within your areas could show the need/requirement for a new sport. If this need is shown, an awareness campaign can be run to gain participants and if successful form a new sporting activity within your Area.Social Integration PolicyCommunity Games Areas should offer opportunities to everybody to take part in the Area activities whether as an official, a participant, competitor, parent or guardian, coach, helper or volunteer irrespective of race, sex, martial status, disability, religious belief, social economic status or sexual orientation.The Community Games offers equal opportunities to all and will meet its obligations under all relevant legislation.
