‘We want everyone to have a good Christmas’
A small group of Mullingar people are busy working to ensure those less well-off have a positive Christmas, and are hoping to provide assistance for those who need it.
Alan Devanney has been committed to this work in recent years and is again leading a campaign that will see gift cards provided to people who need them at what can be a challenging time of year.
“For the last few years, I have been getting donations from family and friends to help me look after people in the community who are struggling to make ends meet,” Alan said.
“It’s a difficult time of year for those who are less well off and we all know how much the cost of living has increased. So the plan is to make sure everyone has enough to enjoy Christmas and no one goes without essentials.”
Alan will be joined by two local men, Oliver Kennedy and Cllr Andrew Duncan, in his efforts this year.
“We want to help people to have at least a Christmas dinner, something everyone should have,” said Alan.
“We will be gathering donations as of now and this year aim to help more people than before.”
Alan has received the perfect start to this year’s campaign through the kind efforts of Susan Jordan and Tadhg Harrington, friends from the sporting world. Already they have begun gathering gift cards and cash for the cause.
“They are two great people that I know from the pitch and putt circuit. This year they presented me with a massive donation between supermarket gift cards and cash,” Alan said.
