Rotary Club funds to Meals on Wheels
Rotary Club Mullingar have made a presentation of funds raised at their various activities to St Dominic’s Community Council for their Meals on Wheels services.
The Meals on Wheels Service has been operating in Mullingar since the 1960s and has grown significantly since. The centre of operations is in College Street, where a modern kitchen ensures the highest standards for food preparation.
They have a small number of exceptional staff who work on a part-time basis to prepare and pack meals tailored to suit each client.
Meals are freshly prepared every morning and delivered by volunteers.
Home Care Services Mullingar deliver meals to Milltownpass, Rochfortbridge and Tyrrellspass. SWEETS in Kilbeggan deliver meals to Kilbeggan, Castletown Geoghegan and Rosemount.
Committees in all those areas deliver meals to individual homes and look after administration.
The charge of €6 per meal includes a dinner and dessert.
Approximately 750 meals are prepared each week – a total of 36,987 meals were prepared and delivered in 2023.
This fantastic service enables the elderly to remain in their homes and provides a daily contact for a face to face chat.
The service is also available to anyone who has had a hospital stay and requires a daily meal on a temporary basis.
Recommendations for the service are generally made by a public health nurse but any member of the public who needs a daily meal can contact us at 044 9344566 between 9am and 1pm, Monday to Friday.
St Dominic’s Community Council is fortunate in the financial support it receives from Mullingar Credit Union and the wider Mullingar community, as collections are generously supported.
Contributions from organisations such as the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, the Soroptimists, the committee who run the All Saints coffee mornings and others, including personal donations, enable the meals on wheels service to progress and expand.
A most sincere thank you to one and all.
