The recent South Hill Classic at Delvin Castle Golf Club was in its 16th year this year, and Denis Shaw of Belsize House, Mullingar, with his brother Eddie, are the competition"s main sponsors.Each year, the Paddy Shaw (their father) Memorial Perpetual Trophy is played for. This year, Denis sponsored and put forward the Tommy Timmons Perpetual Trophy, in recognition of the great part which Delvin native Tommy has played in this classic over the years.Congratulations ShaneWarmest congratulations from all at Delvin Castle Golf Club to Esker Hills golfer Shane Lowry on his fantastic win in the 3 Irish Open Golf tournament at Baltray on Sunday last. For an amateur golfer, competing against top professionals from Europe and the rest of the world, winning after seventy five holes in terrible weather was a phenomenal achievement. He kept us all on the edge of our seats but showed nerves of steel to win out on the third play-off hole. It is only a matter of time before he turns professional and we all hope that success will continue to follow him in the years to come. This young man has a very bright future and without doubt the members at Esker Hills Golf Club are extremely proud of him. Well done Shane and good luck in the future.Meanwhile back at Delvin Castle the season is moving along nicely despite the inclement weather conditions. The course is in excellent condition and well done to all concerned for their hard work in that regard. Sunday, May 2nd, was Ladies open day, sponsored by First Active, and the competition was very well supported by ladies from many different clubs.
