Inflatable cows, scuba divers, clowns, lost sheep were among the curious sights at the Loreto College Mullingar campus on May 8 last. If you saw them and wondered what was going on, here’s an explanation.
It was the annual sports day, an event that the whole school community look forward to every year, especially the fancy dress competition as it offers a much coveted prize.
This year the students had put in the work and produced colourful displays of creativity, imagination and innovative design, including the cows and clowns mentioned above.
The students had a timetable for the various events of the day, from hopper relays and sack races, to welly throws, tug-o-war, bouncy castles and the important food stop.
The sun shone for them, the music played and the sound of laughter filled the school grounds.
Towards the end of the day, the ‘teachers vs sixth years’ event took the form of a bouncy castle relay race, and, while the competition was fierce between the two sides, the teachers came out on top for the second year in a row.
Planning is already under way for next year’s sports day.
