Cosgrove's Sports Bar: the sports fan’s audio-visual dream!

A town consumed by its love of sport, Mullingar now has a new point of reference for its plentiful supply of native sports fanatics, as a fabulous new audio-visual experience debuts at Cosgrove’s Sports Bar at 40 Dominick Place. The popular Mullingar pub, which has been run by the Cosgrove family since 1980, is the home of the current Town and Midland Pool League champions. It has always been considered a haunt for followers of sport in the town, but that reputation is set to soar as the premises is re-launched as Mullingar’s biggest sports bar.Proprietor, Stephen Cosgrove has tapped into the demand for a better viewing experience in this sport mad town of ours, where any discipline - be it soccer, rugby, Gaelic football, hurling, cricket, athletics, golf or horse racing - can call on a solid fan base.To accommodate everybody and to transform Cosgrove’s into a sports bar similar to those found in the UK or on the Continent, seven state-of-the-art televisions have been affixed to the walls of the pub to ensure a wall-to-wall, 360-degree sporting experience. These include an 8-foot HD projector screen, a 47 inch 3D television and an SFT projector to the rear of the bar.Depending on what sports run at a given time, all angles will be covered. For instance, if there’s a pulsating Barclays Premiership clash between Manchester United and Liverpool on the big screen, if there’s a key GAA match, all you’ll have to do is turn your head to keep in touch with the action.Strategically-placed speakers will ensure that no matter which sport you choose to watch, you will hear every grunt and thud, and every commentator’s faux-pas.“If it’s ESPN, Setanta, Sky, RTÉ and BBC Sport, the Racing Channel or Eurosport, we have it, and will cater to all tastes,” Stephen Cosgrove said. “Apart from the usual sports, we’ll also have everything from cricket to basketball, and American football to tennis and soccer from Spain and Italy, as well as England, Scotland and Ireland.”All televisions, depending on the broadcaster, beam high-definition, 3D footage into the pub, and with 100 pairs of 3D glasses available behind the counter, the Cosgrove’s sporting experience is one novelty we won’t get tired of anytime soon.“We aim to make it the biggest sports pub in Mullingar,” Stephen enthused.Plans are afoot to provide coffees, pizzas and other eats and treats for sports fans down the line. For those who can take themselves away from one of the televisions for two minutes, pool tables and dart boards offer more distractions. But it’s not just sport that’s the order of the day.For the ladies who aren’t into their sport, the ever popular X-Factor will be aired on the pub’s 8-foot big screen at weekends, and there are plans to organise a regular céilí night at the Dominick Place venue. Wednesday and Thursday nights also promise music from rocker Bill Blackthorn and singer Dave Gillick respectively, with the latter leading the programme for Thursday’s acoustic night. Also coming soon for the ladies will be an Ann Summer’s night, in aid of breast cancer research. This is likely to be pencilled in for Tuesday, September 21.For more details, contact Cosgrove’s Sports Bar on 044-9340941.
