Loreto parents host cookery demo with Rachel Allen

Loreto College Parents Advisory Council, with the support of Mullingar Credit Union, are hosting a cookery demonstration with celebrity chef Rachel Allen in the Mullingar Park Hotel today, Thursday October 25.

The event is to raise funds to equip the library and steam room at Loreto College to cater for science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

Loreto College has undergone massive refurbishment and building works over the last six years and despite cutbacks, the Department of Education and Skills-funded project was completed in 2013 providing the school with a new Sports Hall, General Purpose Area, Astro Turf Hockey Pitch and two new Science Laboratories.

At the end of 2013, the Loreto sisters were ready to vacate the convent and the Provincial Leader offered the convent building for the use of the school.

The building has now been converted, providing the school with seven extra classrooms, new offices and reception and a new chapel.

The original chapel, dating from 1881, had been converted into bedrooms in the 1960s and it has now been restored into a room that the school hopes to use as a Library and STEM Room to cater for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics.

The school acknowledges the extremely financial help from Mullingar Rotary Club last year to kick-start this final exciting phase of refurbishment.

To complete the project, funds are now needed to fit out the library with the latest technology, furniture and equipment. All funds raised by the Parents Advisory Council from the Rachel Allen Cookery Demonstration will be donated to the school for that purpose.

Tickets are on sale and it promises to be an enjoyable evening in the newly refurbished function room at the Mullingar Park Hotel. There will be stalls from local and other businesses from 7pm and the demonstration starts at 8pm.

The parents are extremely grateful for the generous sponsorship of Mullingar Credit Union which has made the event possible and for the donations already received from local shops and businesses – which include prizes for the raffle on the night.

They encourage everyone to buy tickets and to come along and enjoy the evening while contributing to the completion of a valuable facility that will benefit all the teachers and students at Loreto College Mullingar for years to come.

Tickets can be purchased from the school office at Loreto College, Fagan Office Supplies, Mullingar, Fraynes Bakery, Days Bazaar and the Mullingar Park Hotel at a cost of €20.
