The late Paul Broughan

The late Paul Broughan, who lived at Foxrock, Dublin, and who died on September 18 last, was a native of Rathowen, Co. Westmeath.Mr. Broughan, who was 85 at the time of his death, died at the Ashbury Nursing Home, Kill O The Grange after a long illness, which he bore with great fortitude and humour.Mr. Broughan, who graduated from UCD with an Agricultural Science degree, worked for most of his life with Teagasc at that body’s head office in Dublin, and although most of his life was spent in the city, he remained, at heart, a Westmeath man.A keen golfer, Mr. Broughan was a member of Castle Golf Club and of Foxrock Golf Club, and outside of family, this was his great passion in life.Mr. Broughan is survived by his wife Gertrude (“Gerry”); by his daughters, Sheila and Fionnuala, and his sons, Donal and Paul.He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Christina Manning, Rathowen, and by his six grandchildren, Eimear, Ailbhe, Cian, Darragh, Ruaidhrí and Conall.The remains were greeted on arrival at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Foxrock, by Fr. John Bracken, CC, Foxrock, and it was also Fr. Bracken who celebrated the funeral Mass, following which the remains were interred at Shanganagh Cemetery.
