New sports development planned for Multy

Planning permission has been sought for a major new sports and recreational development in Multyfarnham.

The local GAA club and Multy Community Centre Ltd have applied for planning for a new football pitch with floodlighting. Permission has also been sought to construct a new parking area and to upgrade the existing car park with enough room for 224 car spaces and two buses. The planning application also includes details for the development of a 3m wide walkway measuring 710m.

The site of the proposed development is adjacent to the existing community centre and playing field.

Last season Multyfarnham's senior team secured its first piece of silverware in 61 years when it won the Westmeath Junior Football Championship beating Ballynacargy in the final and the team managed by Louis Ennis didn't finished there. After winning the Leinster title by beating Offaly's Erin Rovers in the final, they saw off the challenge of Mayo's Lahardane in the All Ireland Club JFC semi final before narrowly losing out to Cork's Knocknagree in the final.

The decision due date for the planning application for the new pitch is September 27.
