"The two young women started swinging out of each other's hair and then got down on the ground.

"Eventually two older male students jumped in and broke it up.

"I later heard that the girl who lost was taken to casualty.”

The eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that a number of young people were videoing the fight and that the adults in the park were scared of intervening such was the enthusiasm of the crowd.

“One man next to me rang the guards and a little fella came over and said: 'we will get you, you are a snitch'.

Early this week, a garda spokesperson confirmed that officers were aware of an incident having taken place and had CCTV footage of the fight.

However, at time of writing, no official complaint had been received about the fight and, as such, no garda investigation had been put in train.
