Curraghmore school: statement from Westmeath County Council

The following is Westmeath County Council’s statement (issued Friday November 30, 2018):

“The provision of a new 16 classroom national school and two-classroom base special needs unit on the Ardmore Rd Mullingar for Curraghmore NS has been devolved form the Department of Education and Skills (DoES) to Westmeath County Council (WCC) under a Service Level Agreement (SLA).

“A contract was awarded to PJ McLoughlin & Sons Ltd. (PJMcL) on 25 August 2017 to construct the new school development for a contract sum of €4,934,772 excl. VAT.

“The initial construction completion date was September 2018. This was not achieved and the contractor is currently working to a construction programme with a completion date in April 2019.

“Westmeath County Council with the full support of the DoES are endeavouring to manage the contract to ensure the earliest delivery date possible is achieved working within the constraints of the conditions of contract.

“Westmeath County Council have a communications agreement with the Board of Management of the school to update them once a month on the status of the project.”
