Mullingar trained and owned horse wins Irish Grand National

There was a Mullingar-trained winner of the Ladbrokes Irish Grand National today when 50/1 outsider Liberty Counsel secured a famous victory in the traditional Easter Monday spectacular in Fairyhouse.

Trained at Charlestown Stud near Weldon's Cross, Mullingar by Mrs Dot Love, the ten-year-old held off the challenge of Arthur Moore's Away We Go from the last fence to secure a famous victory.

Dot Love, a native of Denmark, trains from the Charlestown Livery Yard in Mullingar, where she is assisted by Ciaran Murphy, brother of Ballymore's Olympic event rider Joseph Murphy.

The winner was ridden by five-pound claimer Ben Dalton and is only the stable's seventh win of the 2012/2013 National Hunt season.

Liberty Counsel's last victory came at Kilbeggan in the Dunbia Chase in September last.

The winner is owned by two Mullingar sisters, Helen Murtagh and Irene Neale.
