Castlepollard man makes moving speech at ika event

Castlepollard’s Mike Kelly was one of the main speakers at the Irish Kidney Association’s 29th Annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving held recently in Galway.

Mr Kelly, who is the co-ordinator of the Irish Kidney Association’s national counselling service, delivered a reflection on organ donation titled ‘The Light of Hope’. The annual event was attended by over 1000 members of the organ donation community, as well as President Michael D Higgins.

Following this event the President was the guest of honour at the Circle of Life national commemorative garden for organ donors in nearby Quincentennial Park, Salthill. At this special event songs, music, dance and poem recitals were performed by people touched by organ donation. The Circle of Life event was organised by Martina and Denis Goggin, parents of organ donor Éamonn and founders of the ‘Strangeboat Donor Foundation’.
