All Saints choir lead Evensong at Christ Church

The choir of All Saints Church Mullingar led the singing of Evensong in Christ Church Cathedral Dublin, on Sunday August 19 last.

It was a special occasion, which was uplifting and inspirational to all who attended, said Brigid Geoghegan.

Cathedral Choral Evensong is essentially a service of reflection, with psalms, readings and canticles, which are the core of the service.

Christ Church Cathedral has been a site of worship for nearly 1,000 years.

Cathedrals with a great choral tradition draw on a rich inheritance of music, much of it sung by the choir alone.

In the Anglican tradition, this music finds its natural setting in the office of Evensong, a combination of the medieval offices of Vespers and Compline.

Here beauty in language and music can speak to us in a rich and diverse way.

Within the hallowed space of Christ Church you may forget the ceaseless activity of daily life and be still.

Canon Rev Alastair Graham, Rector of All Saints, said:

“Bill McConnell, musical director and Lesley Denniston, organist, and the members of the Choir of All Saints Church are to be warmly congratulated on their singing in Christ Church Cathedral.

“It was truly inspirational and their singing matched the quality of any choir.

“So many compliments have been received from people in Dublin who were delighted to attend the service or watch on the cathedral webcam.”
