Vincent will be a unique experience on November 7.

Life of artist told via letters to brother

Presented by Red Alchemy Theatre Company, written by Leonard Nimoy in the 1970s, and based on the play Van Gogh by Phillip Stephens, Vincent is an astonishing, fervent piece: a 90-minute, non-stop monologue, with one interval.

It will be presented on a simple set: a desk, chairs and an easel – all located downstage of a framed screen, featuring back-projected images of van Gogh’s work.

The group will tour with stage manager and LX operator; the set designer and stagehand will travel to each venue for rig and de-rig. The action takes place in Paris, 1890, one week after Vincent’s suicide at the age of 37, as his grieving brother, Theo, recalls his life through the many letters they shared. An intense delivery reveals the contents of the letters, allowing us to feel the loss, anger, frustration and (sometimes) joy of his tumultuous relationship with Vincent. I think anyone who loves art, passion and life itself should see this play; it is a renewing experience and an insight into one of history’s most gifted, haunted masters.

Wednesday November 7 at 8pm.
