Olympic BC, Mullingar named Ireland’s best boxing club for 2019

Olympic Boxing Club, Mullingar has won best boxing club in Ireland for 2019. This is the second year in a row for Olympic BC to win this award, and in 2019, the club has won it outright, having shared it in 2018.

This season, Olympic BC won 16 Irish titles, which in its self is an outstanding achievement. Since the club has opened, they now have won 39 national Irish titles.

The club opens five days a week: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday and Sunday morning. We would like to thank everyone involved in such a small boxing club, which has up to 60 members. For the club to achieve best boxing club for the second year in a row is just brilliant.

Olympic Boxing Club would like to thank all its coaches, committee members, helpers, sponsors, and everyone who helped in the smallest way to achieve this. The club won best boxing club in two international box cups this season, coming in number one at the Wexford Box Cup last November, with up to 300 boxers and 50 boxing clubs and 10 countries involved.

Also, in July, Olympic BC won the biggest international box cup in the world for 2019 – the Monkstown Box Cup, with up to 1,500 boxers and 200 boxing clubs from 20 different clubs taking part. Olympic Boxing Club claimed the number one spot.

Olympic BC had two boxers box in the European championships this season, with Jason Nevin and Niamh Keogh both losing in quarter-finals, just missing out on medals. Also, we had Michael Nugent and Patsy Joyce both representing Ireland in internationals.

Olympic Boxing Club heads to New York from October 24 till October 29 to take part in another international box cup involving 10 countries, and also on November 8 they head to Wexford to try and retain their title for best club at the Wexford International Box Cup.

There are certainly a busy few months ahead for Ireland’s best club!
