The newly improved six-week ‘Boxercise’ Programme returned to the Parish Community Centre, Mullingar yesterday, Thursday February 6, and it continues till March 12 (8-9pm).

‘Boxercise’ classes have operated under the guidance of three times British karate champion and Advanced Boxercise Instructor with Boxercise Corporation UK, Ken Fitzpatrick for a number of years now, bringing a New York fitness revolution to Westmeath.

The classes first emerged in the United States during the 1980s, when people visited boxing gyms to get fit, without necessarily taking to the ring or sparring with an opponent.

Gyms became populated with white-collar workers punching off the stress of Wall Street and Madison Avenue, and this concept was later adapted by club owners into a new fitness and training concept, which quickly evolved into a class format.

‘Boxercise’ classes in Mullingar feature classes co-ordinated by Ken, an experienced and qualified instructor, and with the help of upbeat music. Ken has now added Fitness Kickbox routines to the mix for added variety.

No previous fitness level is required and the focus is on ‘feel good’ and ‘fun’.

“Boxercise is a great way to banish the blues for good, tone up, lose weight and meet new friends,” says Ken.
