Theatre masterpiece 'Bailegangaire' in Mullingar for two nights

Coming to Mullingar Arts Centre this Wednesday and Thursday, October 5th and 6th, Bailegangaire is an Irish masterpiece that Druid premiered in 1985 with Siobhan McKenna.

Presented by NOMAD in association with Livin’ Dred Theatre, Tom Murphy’s extraordinary play centres around Mommo, who tells over and over again a story she never finished of how the town came to be as Bailegangaire, the town without laughter.

Mommo is attended by her two granddaughters, Mary and Dolly. The younger women yearn to be free of the past in order to make a new beginning, and Mary comes to believe that to do so, the story of Bailegangaire has to be concluded.

Directed by Padraic McIntyre, Tom Murphy’s Bailegangaire is considered one of the crowning achievements of Irish drama, casting an unyielding but tender light of women’s lives from a dark time.

- Bailegangaire runs for two nights, Wednesday October 5 and Thursday October 6, at 8pm with tickets priced €15/€18 and are available from the box office on 04493-47777 or online at www.mullingarartscentre.ie
