Hurt them in their pockets

Dear Editor, I have been reading letters to the Editor published in the Irish Independent. I have noticed that the letters are mostly about bankers illicit dealings, bungling politicians and state agencies bosses junkets, which all of the aforementioned group have been getting away with at the expense of the taxpayer. The writers of these letters are venting their anger and frustration, which is the general feeling of everyone on this small beautiful island. The members of government and the appropriate authorities should heed these articles. The only way to achieve change is to do what the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) did to the crime bosses, that is, to hurt them in their pockets. Don"t vote for these people, or appoint inept managers or anyone remotely connected to them. Bring in fresh talent. After all when someone applies for a job they are interviewed, grilled and roasted before being appointed and why not the same process for potential leaders and managers. Maybe some Einstein out there can come up with some new system to vet these applicants. Maybe the E-voting machines (in cold storage for the past five years and costing a fortune to keep) could be modified to (a) weed out the present lot and (b) to recruit better talent. Plug it in you know where on the present lot and the machine would probably disintegrate.Ireland was always referred to as the land of Saints and Scholars. Now we are better known as the land of 'spoils and crooks'. For centuries the people of Ireland were persecuted and thankfully our forefathers were real men with integrity and vision who freed the people from that persecution. If only we could bring these men back to clear up this present mess, which is effecting every man, woman and child in our society. Maybe there will be a miracle. I say to the politicians 'take the bull by the horns, stand up like men of principle, not waffling dodgers. Make the Irish people proud and let us be the envy of Europe'.Sincerely,Joe EnglishBratty Road,Castlepollard,Co. Westmeath.
