Christy back spinning the disks!

Christy Maye is set to dust off his old records for a very special charity event when he plans to recreate the glory of the early disco era in Mullingar"s Greville Arms on March 27.Offering a night of nostalgia, "Christy Maye"s Disc a Go Go", should bring back fond memories for many of the former disco regulars from all over the Midlands.Organiser Tom Duffy is promising a fantastic night of entertainment with plans to transform the Greville Arms in to a sixties time capsule, using genuine 1960"s disco equipment and, of course, the obligatory 60"s dress being rolled out for the night.Christy, who hasn"t played a record in public since 1990, agreed to come out of disco retirement and take part in the event as all money raised will be going to two very worthy causes.Tom and Christy are hoping to raise much needed funds for the Westmeath Hospice and the Liam Hayes Argentinian Orphanage, both groups being wholly reliant on the generosity of donors. The pair plan to replicate the old disco days, using authentic lighting and equipment to recreate the scene as would have been experienced by disco fans when the trend was still in it"s infancy back in the early 1960"s.With a truly genuine night planned, the only thing missing will be the smell of Sweet Afton and Players, as the organisers have no plans to break the new smoking laws. While remaining humble about his role in the creation of disco, Christy Maye was certainly the first person in Ireland, and possibly the first in the world to come up with the winning formula, when he first decided to play records to audiences in dance halls back in 1963.While the idea took a little while to take off, Christy soon found his services in great demand, as he performed to packed houses with audiences of thousands towards the end of the 1960"s.
