Saturday January 12:Guided Walk of Split Hills and Long Hill Esker WoodlandJoin the Native Woodland Trust for a guided walk of the Split Hills and Long Hill Esker Woodland on Saturday January 12 at 11am.These woods run along the famous Split Hills Long Hill Esker, located halfway between Tyrrellspass and Kilbeggan. The wood is protected as a special area of conservation due to its unique and important woodland and wild flowers.This guided walk is free of charge and all are welcome. So come along to get some new year's exercise and learn about this natural gem.Native woodland is scarce in Ireland and the Native Woodland Trust helps protect the little we have left by creating woodland nature reserves and increasing awareness of the importance Irish native woodland.The Trust has recently started managing a beautiful native Westmeath woodland called Ardan Woods. We are protecting this site as a woodland nature reserve for the benefit of wildlife and plant life and we will be running educational walks on-site.This Saturday's walk will be in the nearby and similarly beautiful Split Hills Long Hill Esker Woodland.The walk will be about one hour in length and will be led by a Native Woodland Trust guide.
