Commuter station signalled at Killucan Station

In what has been the most promising news since Killucan Station closed in 1963, Iarrnród Eireann CEO David Franks has promised a feasibility study for a new commuter station there.

He did so during a visit to the station yesterday with Minister of State for Transport Alan Kelly, where they met with campaigners who have been lobbying for its re-opening for over ten years now.

According to Minister Kelly, who visited the platform for the second time, all it would take to open the station is to make sure it's viable, that it will not affect current timetabling and to secure the finance for developing a modern destination for commuters.

Long term campaigner Cllr Denis Leonard, was extremely hopeful following the meeting, and believed the arrival of the CEO signals a significant change in attitude to the reopening Killucan Station.

The presence of a station would be massively benefit locals in the Killucan area which has seen a huge population spurt - most of them commuters to Dublin . Trains already stop at the station morning and evening, while there is carparking for over 120. All it would take is the refurbishment of existing facilities.
