The accident scene yesterday afternoon.

The 23-year-old woman who died from injuries incurred when her car was hit by a tree on the Ballymahon Road, Mullingar yesterday, Wednesday, has been named as Aisling Maguire.

She was taken to Mullingar hospital at around 4pm, and gardaí said she later died from her injuries.

It’ll be cold and blustery today with frequent heavy showers, some showers will be thundery and of hail, with occasional snow for a time this morning. Highest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees generally, with fresh to strong and gusty southwest to west winds.

Showers will be isolated tonight, but will continue near west coasts. Long dry spells will develop elsewhere. Slight to sharp ground frost will develop inland as winds ease, with the risk of icy patches. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees.
