Glynn concern over road safety at Loreto

Concern over the safety of pedestrians in the Loreto College area has been expressed by Cllr Ken Glynn.

At a meeting of the council’s Mullingar Area members last month, Cllr Glynn asked when proposed pedestrian safety measures would be put in place outside Loreto.

The official written response to Cllr Glynn’s query was that the council’s Road Design Section has engaged a traffic engineering consultant to prepare a report in relation to provision of a pedestrian link and a pedestrian crossing in the area between the Harbour and the roundabout at Tailteann Court, and this is still awaited.

“In addition,” the reply continued, “there are ongoing discussions with Iarnród Éireann in relation to a possible footbridge over the railway.”

Cllr Glynn also asked that the council place a ‘no dog fouling’ sign at the entrance to Millmount, and was told that such signs are available for collection by residents at the council’s customer services desk.

A further request by Cllr Glynn, asking that the “excessive” amount of leaves all over the car park at Harbour Street be removed, elicited the response that the car park had been swept the previous Wednesday.
