John Joe Nevin viciously attacked in Mullingar

Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin is in hospital today following a vicious assault on him in Mullingar this morning, Saturday April 5.

It is understood the boxer was visiting a relative’s house in Ardleigh when the attack took place around 10.30am.

While the 25-year-old’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening, it is understood he is being treated with a suspected broken leg and will be transferred to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore from Mullingar, where he will be seen at the specialised orthopedic unit there.

The sportsman who recently turned professional, beating Alberto Candelaria on St Patrick’s Day in Boston, was setting his sights on the world title.

However if the Mullingar man has sustained a broken leg it could seriously damage his career.
