Council to run two count centres for local election
Two separate count centres are to operate in Westmeath for the counting of votes in the forthcoming local elections, Westmeath County Council has announced.
The Mullingar Coole and Mullingar Kilbeggan constituency counts will be in the Mullingar Park Hotel, while the counting of votes for the Athlone constituency will take place in the Gaeil Scoil in Athlone.
All ballot papers will have to be validated initially, at The Mullingar Park Hotel by Elizabeth Sharkey, Returning Officer, and the Athlone boxes will then be transported to Athlone for counting.
The election is to take place on May 23, and the counting will begin on May 24.
Intending candidates have from Saturday of this week, April 26, until 12 noon on Saturday May 3, to lodge their nomination papers.

The validation of the European election ballot papers will also take place at The Mullingar Park Hotel.
