Major search for missing Longford man

A comprehensive search of selected stretches of the N4 Mullingar to Sligo road which was carried out yesterday failed to yield any clues as to the whereabouts of missing Longford man, Anthony Carberry. Fify year old Mr Carberry was reported missing on Friday July 18 and was last seen walking on the N4 in the direction of Longford.

While there have been reported sightings of the 50 year old, in the interim, his family has not been able to contact him since July 18.

On Tuesday a thirty strong search party, led by Sgt Roger Nicholson and including members of Westmeath Civil Defence, the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps, the Red Cross, family members and the general public combed areas close to where Mr Carberry was last seen.

There was a heavy concentration along the N4 from Rathowen to the Longford border, while other areas searched included Lacken, Multyfarnham, Ballinalack and woodland adjacent to the lake at Ballinafid. However, no trace was found of Mr Carberry during the day long search.

The missing man is 6’4” in height, of stocky build, with brown hair and when last seen he was wearing a grey t-shirt and blue tracksuit trousers. Gardaí are particularly appealing to anyone who may have observed a lone male walking on the N4 from Mullingar to Edgeworthstown between 11.30pm on Friday July 18 and 5am Saturday July 19 to contact them.
