General operatives at Mullingar Railway Station Mick Towey and Keith Kinahan are thrilled to be voted the best station in Leinster by the public at the Iarnród Eireann awards on Monday.

Mullingar railway station voted best in leinster by public

Mullingar Railway Station was selected as the best station in Leinster at an Iarnród Éireann awards ceremony in Dublin on Monday October 13, as voted for by the public.

“It’s a welcome surprise to us,” said a beaming Keith Kinahan, general operative at Mullingar Railway Station.

“It was decided by the public so fair play to them, they’re after doing us great justice, we’re more than delighted.

“We have a very old station and it needs a good bit of work doing to it, it’s almost 170 years old. Some of these modern stations have absolutely no character to them at all.

“The people that come through here appreciate the character of the station,” he continues.

“We have a great regular base of customers and because it’s a country station, staff and customers have a good rapport with each other.

"We really appreciate the customers and it’s absolutely a brilliant surprise. We’d like to thank all the customers for voting for us."
