Mullingar nurses vote for industrial action

Following a week-long balloting to nurses at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar, 92% have voted in favour of industrial action.

The action which will take the form of work-to-rule is expected to commence on March 9.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) say overcrowding has reached record levels in the hospital with figures in December 2014 showing a 253% increase on the previous year.

The union also says at least 60 extra staff are needed to make Mullingar Hospital safe.
