Garda statement drug seizure

As part of an on-going intelligence led operation targeting the illegal sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Westmeath area, gardaí have seized cannabis herb and arrested two males.

Gardaí conducted a planned search of a house at Marlinstown, Mullingar yesterday afternoon. Cannabis herb (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of up to €10,000 was seized and two males in their 50s arrested. Drug paraphernalia was also seized.

In a follow-up search last night at a house in Streamstown, gardaí seized cannabis herb (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of up to €20,000 along with a large quantity of cash.

One of the males arrested was released without charge late last night and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The second male is currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Athlone Garda Station.
