Free family fun on day of fittest company finals

Ten weeks of training completed for Westmeath’s Fittest Company 2015 and the teams have shaped up nicely! With just two training nights left, it really is wide open as to who will come away with the title for this year.

A grand total of 39 different company teams from Athlone to Castlepollard to Mullingar and Kinnegad will line out to compete for the title in Columb Barracks, Mullingar at midday on Saturday April 25. Including subs, that’s 236 individuals.

The great thing is that not only will they have been training for this for 12 weeks to get fitter and healthier, but in doing so they will all have raised money for The Cancer Support Sanctuary (LARCC).

The public are encouraged to attend this free family day and cheer on the teams. Maurice Looby Fitness and LARCC have lined up an exciting programme of events to keep everyone entertained, so bring the family and friends and help spread awareness of this fantastic charity and the services that they provide right here in Westmeath.

Surrounding the main competition for the title of Westmeath’s Fittest Company 2015, there will be food stalls, music, entertainment for kids from Mrs Skittles and others – with a keep-fit theme, of course.

Kelly Photography will be there to capture the highlights of the day along with the Midlands 103 Roadcaster, plus much more.

The competition will include a 60-metre sprint, an aerobic fitness test (bleep test), a team obstacle race (which will involve lifting and carrying), and a relay race.

Last year’s winners, Mergon International, face some stiff competition from the likes of Ericsson, The Gardaí Mullingar, Mr Crumb, Tesco, Dunnes, Ulster Bank, Westmeath County Council, The Greville Arms Hotel, RBK Athlone, ORS Mullingar, Home Instead Senior Care, Flynn Fuels, Trend Technologies, American Medical Solutions, Bennett Construction, Athlone Extrusions, Whelehans Pharmacy, and even The Westmeath Examiner!

Some of the prize categories include: winning team, the team that raises the most for LARCC, and the individual male and female who raise the most for the charity.

The event is sponsored by Tri and Run, Maurice Looby Fitness, Kelly Photography, The Greville Arms Hotel, Athlone Extrusions & KC Sports.

April 25 promises to be a fun, and interesting day at Columb Army Barracks, so please lend your support and drop in any time from midday until 4pm to cheer on the competitors.
