Handing over the chain of office, outgoing chairman Cllr Paddy Hill welcomes Cllr Paul Daly as Westmeath County Council's new Cathaoirleach.

Kilbeggan's Paul Daly has been elected the new Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council.

He takes over from outgoing chairman Cllr Paddy Hill.

Formally proposed by Cllr Ken Glynn, and seconded by Cllr Avril Whitney today in Council chambers, Cllr Daly thanked everyone for their unanimous support.

“I am honoured to be elected Cathaoirleach, but it’s that extra special when it happens unanimously,”

Pledging the same affiliation, passion and love for Westmeath to his new role as Cathaoirleach, Cllr Daly said he plans to unite the two towns of Mullingar and Athlone for the betterment of the county as a whole.

Cllr Andrew Duncan was appointed leas Cathaoirleach.
