Garda appeal for witnesses following fatal accident at dalystown

Gardaí in Rochfortbridge are appealing for witnesses to yesterday's fatal road traffic accident.

A man in his early 30s was the driver of the car and was fatally injured following a head-on collision with a truck on the Tyrrellspass to Mullingar road on Wednesday at 4.30pm.

The young man, believed to be from the North of Ireland, had been living and working in Mullingar.

The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The N52 road at Calverstown, Dalystown, was closed while the garda Scenes of Crime Unit investigated.

This brings the total of fatal accidents on roads in the Mullingar District to three in under two weeks.

Damian Moore, a truck driver in his 40s, lost his life when his articulated lorry overturned on the N52 between Delvin and Mullingar on Thursday September 17.

The other took place on N4 at Coralstown outside Mullingar when 24-year-old Kenneth Dunne from Edenderry lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Sunday September 13.
