St finians schola cantorum concert

St Finian’s College are hosting an evening of music and song on Saturday, October 10, at 7.30pm to mark the 45th anniversary of the foundation of the Schola Cantorum.

The occasion will also mark the opening of a new music centre in the college which has been completed in recent weeks.

The concerts will feature an array of talent and musical genres from both present and distinguished past pupils.

The Schola Cantorum is a national educational institution dedicated to the development of the musical talent of 20 exceptional young pupils each year from all corners of the country.

Gerard Lillis, director of the Schola Cantorum, said: “We are glad that alumni of the schola are now represented in every section of professional musical life in the country and abroad, and the name of the schola has become synonymous with all that is excellent in musical standards.

“Our hope is that it will continue to prosper, flourish and develop even more in its leading role in Irish music education.”

There will be huge variety in the concert, featuring many of our exceptionally talented current student cohort – school choirs, soloists, traditional and classical music ensembles.

“We also are happy to welcome back some of our distinguished past pupils who are engaged in performance on a professional level: Sarah Brady (soprano), Emmet Cahill (tenor), Gavan Ring (baritone), as well as the up and coming pop-folk duo Hudson-Taylor, who are returning from London to their alma mater for the occasion,” said Mr Lillis.

“There will be something for everyone and it promises to be a very entertaining musical evening.”

Tickets (€20, students €15) are available from the school office, 044 934 8672, and from Fagan Office Supplies in Mullingar.
