Death of Castlepollard fireman

 

The death has occurred of Castlepollard fireman, Martin Farrell.

Mr Farrell, who was 56, died last night (Wednesday), at The Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore.  He had been diagnosed with cancer in April of last year.

A noted Irish dancer, Mr Farrell was a keen photographer, and supplied the weekly “Castlepollard Notes” and photographs to The Westmeath Examiner since 2007, taking over a role previously fulfilled by his mother, the late Kathleen Farrell.

His remains will lie in repose on Saturday at the Camillian Fathers mortuary from 3pm, prior to removal to St Michael’s Church, Church Street, Castlepollard, to which location it is due to arrive at 5.45pm.

Mr Farrell’s funeral Mass is to be celebrated at 11.15am on Sunday, and it is to be a full formal Fire Service funeral, with personnel attending in uniform, and forming a guard of honour.

Mr Farrell, who joined the fire service in Castlepollard in 2001, and who was extremely proud of the role he and his colleagues played in the emergency services network, will be buried in his fire service uniform.
