If You're Single... Why Not Marry?

Whilst perusing a programme belonging to the National Sheep Shearing Championships, held in Collinstown in 1965, and printed by the Westmeath Examiner, we came across a very interesting advertisement.

Simply headed "If You're Single, Why Not Marry!" it asked for applicants, including farmers and farmers daughters to apply to a Social Introductions Centre, 2 Upper Ely Place in Dublin.

"Are you a farmer - farmer's daughter - professional man or woman - tradesman or working girl?" the ad reads.

Then it stipulates the ages that should apply, which are vastly different between the sexes.

"Men from 20 to 60, women in the 20/40 age groups, can have acceptable marriage introductions"!

We wonder did many apply, and did anyone lie about their age?
