Penrose wants north Westmeath back in Longford Westmeath constituency

Deputy Penrose is calling on all constituents who were transferred to the Meath West constituency to make a submission to the boundary commission.

He wants the people of Castlepollard, Delvin, Clonmellon, Collinstown and Fore to request a return to Longford Westmeath.

Deputy Penrose said today he will be making his own submission, when the boundary commission is up and running, given the fact that a significant portion of Westmeath was “severed for electoral purposes”.

Huge geographical areas in Westmeath such as: Castlepollard, Delvin, Clonmellon, Collinstown and Fore were transferred to the Meath West constituency under a previous boundary review.

This amounts to over 6,000 people moved out of the Longford Westmeath constituency,” said Dep Penrose.

As a TD I have continued to represent the concerns and issues people in Castlepollard, Delvin, Clonmelin and Collinstown face despite them not being in my electoral area.

I know that by and large the people in these areas want to return to the Longford Westmeath constituency.

They have a clear affinity with the geographical entity of Westmeath, from an administrative, cultural and sporting perspective and their local municipal administrative area is Mullingar,” he continued.

I am therefore calling on community groups, voluntary organisations and individuals to make submissions to the boundary commission to help ensure the integrity of the Longford Westmeath constituency is restored and the people in these areas get the representation they deserve.
