Netflix releases 'Jadotville' trailer

Netflix has released a trailer and named October 7 as the release date for the much-anticipated “The Siege of Jadotville”, written by Mullingar writer Declan Power.

The film is based on Power’s ‘The Siege at Jadotville: The Irish Army’s Forgotten Battle‘ and playing the lead role is Northern Ireland actor, Jamie Dornan.

Netflix are billing the story as one of "incredible bravery against impossible odds":

"The Siege of Jadotville depicts the 1961 siege of a 150-strong Irish UN battalion under Commander Patrick Quinlan, (played by Dornan) by 3,000 Congolese troops led by French and Belgian mercenaries working for mining companies.

Many of the Irish soldiers were from Mullingar and Athlone.
