Gardaí investigating 'suspicious approach' to 11-year-old

Gardaí in Mullingar are investigating "a suspicious approach" to an 11-year-old on the Ashe Road yesterday, Wednesday, morning.

A garda spokesperson said the boy reported the incident to his teachers, and he was interviewed both by uniformed gardai and subsequently by specialist child interviewers.

Gardaí are treating the incident seriously and detectives are continuing the investigation.

CCTV footage is being checked, and this morning, Thursday, a check point was set up in the area, to question people about what they might have seen yesterday morning.

The alleged incident happened around 8.40/8.50am yesterday, Wednesday.

Officers are working on the following description of the alleged perpetrator, said the garda spokesperson: a male, in a red, old type vehicle, possibly with the front registration plate missing.
