Death of Jadotville soldier Bill Ready

The death occurred earlier today of William “Bill” Ready, from Newbrook Grove Mullingar.

Mr Ready featured as one of the characters in the recently–released film The Siege of Jadotville.

Serving in The Congo with an Irish peacekeeping force, he was shot at Jadotville, and held the  unusual distinction of being the first Irish soldier injured in combat on foreign soil. In latter years, he  was a dedicated member of IUNVA.

A native of Kildare, he had lived in Mullingar for fifty years.

His death occurred peacefully at his home, in the company of his devoted family.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Nora, Mr Ready is survived by his partner, Daisy; his family Stephen,  Jacinta, Rosemary, John and Stephanie as well as by his brothers John and Larry, his grandchildren and great-grandson, his daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, brothers-in-law,  sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mr Ready’s remains are reposing at his home on Tuesday, and the funeral Mass is at 10am on Wednesday in the Cathedral of Christ the King.
