Wheelchair dumped in Royal Canal
Shopping trolleys, traffic cones, bottles and cans by the cartload – all a regular sight in the Royal Canal in Mullingar.
But shockingly, Westmeath Examiner reader Bob McDermott discovered thugs have gone a step further in the last week, and discarded a wheelchair in the canal.
“It's been there since Friday,” said Bob of the wheelchair, which is lying just under surface-level close to the footbridge at the Harbour.
As someone who walks the canal line every day, he has seen all sorts of items in the canal – including in the last few days, a floating beer keg at the Supply Line.
However, he reckons the wheelchair trumps all.
